Writing
from the Deeper Self:
A
Taste of the Treasures Within
A
one-day workshop
Each of us has wondrous, amazing, and limitless treasures within us. But
most of us, in the course of a day—sometimes, even, a life—do
not get to fully experience what those are, or the profound wellspring
within us that brings them to the surface. Writing from the Deeper Self
is a natural and enlarging way to meet yourself intimately and gratefully,
and from that interaction to bring forth some of your treasures in writing.
Many
people have had difficult experiences with writing, such as in school,
such that they’ve come to believe writing is (1) for other people,
(2) hard, (3) something they aren’t “good at.”
But
none of this is true. Writing from the deeper Self requires no research
except for contacting your own experience in the moment. And this experience
does not need to be thought-out, or reasoned, or presented in good outline
form. The deeper Self speaks to us in many unique ways, such as inner
imagery, a felt sense, a persistent memory, even a song. By making room
for how the deeper Self speaks in you and allowing it out in your own
unique way, you get the joy of creating, plus the gift of recognizing
the wealth of intelligence, love, healing, connection, and other wonderful,
wonderful things within you.
Come
taste your treasures, and bring them into the light where they can shine.
Date: TBA, 10am – 5 pm
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay (to be announced)
Cost: $200 ($175 if pre-registered)

Write
the Book You’ve Been Wanting to Write—
and
Learn to Love the Process
An 8-week class
There are many myths about writing a book, but the most destructive one
is the one that says, “I can’t.” If you have a genuine
desire to write a specific book, you can learn to bring that desire into
written form, using the “Writing from the Deeper Self” approach.
The wish to write a book is both a sacred trust and something that tends
to bring up great self-doubt and vulnerability. It’s as if somewhere
we know that we must be real with ourselves, must become transparent in
order even to make contact with the depth we want to pull up to consciousness.
This transparency often gets confused with self-exposure, and these and
other psychological factors can interfere with writing, even beginning
to write, a book.
The beauty of Writing from the Deeper Self is that it provides a natural
pathway to give voice to exactly what is seeking, in us, to be given voice
to. It’s a relationship with your deepest nature, a path to the
divine: and all you have to do is show up to your heart, find the images,
stories, memories, felt senses, and inner guidance waiting for you there,
and learn to translate these nonverbal realities into words.
You may think this is impossible. It isn’t. It’s very possible.
You have within you the same propensities as great artists, great thinkers,
great beings. Writing a book from the deeper Self is a viable way to bring
it out—and, in the process, discover your true nature, fine-tune
your vision and your artistry, and enjoy (yes!) the long-haul commitment
of seeing a long work through its various incarnations, drafts, revisions,
and chapters. Although effort is involved to begin, sustain, and complete
a book that you are content with and that will speak powerfully to your
readers, it’s the best kind of effort: the kind that gives you back
more than you put into it, similar to being a parent, or cultivating a
great love. And in the process, your life may be transformed, as you begin
to think in chapters, recurring themes, and movement toward a worthy destination.
Sample topics to be
covered:
* What is the call in your heart? * How does it reveal itself to you?
* Do you always have to “begin at the beginning”? * Being
present with your writing. * Tracking your own unique creative process.
* Entering from the mind – entering from the heart – entering
from the body. * Letting the structure reveal itself. * Breath as an ally
in writing. * Trusting what comes, and revising later on. * Learning to
receive your own writing. * What is your book “about”? * Explanations
versus evocations. * And much more.
Naomi Rose is a professional writer and book developer
in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was born into a
writing family, and as a child read the books in their library without
understanding the adult themes at all, just to soak in the atmospheres.
Later, working in the publications field as a book editor, she felt something
essential had been lost in the product-oriented manuscripts she worked
on: where was the human being behind them? After 30 years in the field
as an editor, writer, and consultant, she created the “Writing from
the Deeper Self” approach to honor the sacredness of the person
writing the book as well as helping guide, support, and midwife the books
themselves.
Dates: TBA
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay (to be announced)
Cost: $450 ($400 if pre-registered)

Healing
Your Relationship to Money
from
the Inside Out:
Money
and the Inner Life: Claiming Your True Inheritance
A two-day workshop
Most of us learn that
money is something outside us, and that how much of it we have depends
on such factors as luck, hard work, constant attention to getting it,
and so on. But our inner life—our connection with, or separation
from, our deep nature—is the real key to having what we need, and
to trusting life to support us totally.
In this workshop, we will explore some common assumptions about money
as an “outside” experience, and begin to look more closely
at how our real nature was obscured or set aside early on, in favor of
a partial self that believed it had to “do something” to get
its needs (material and otherwise) met. As we begin to recontact our original
nature, which is supported even by breath and the earth, and to understand
some of the early decisions we have made keeping us from accepting all
the blessings life has to shower on us, and how these have related to
money up to now, a shift can take place, enabling us to relax into our
ground of being and ask for, and attract to us, everything we need.
Texts:
* MotherWealth:
The Feminine Path to Money
* The Portable
Blessings Ledger: A Way to Keep Track of Your Finances and Bring Meaning
and Heart to Your Dealings with Money.
* "The Almighty
and the Dollar"
Naomi Rose is the author of three books on money and
the inner life, two of them in print so far: MotherWealth: The Feminine
Path to Money, and The Portable Blessings Ledger: A Way to Keep
Track of Your Finances and Bring Meaning and Heart to Your Dealings with
Money. (The third book is in progress: The Blessings Ledger:
A Journey to Find the Union of Money and Compassion.) She has also
written an article, "The Almighty and the Dollar," available
from The Creating, Comfort, & Centering Store (click on "Bookstore"
from menu at left), which also will be published in Pure Inspiration
Magazine in Fall 2008. A writer and book developer in private practice,
she has been seeking a deeper understanding of money and its relation
to the inner life since 1993. She was formerly on the board of directors
of the Cooperative Center Federal Credit Union of Berkeley.
