Naomi Rose is a San Francisco Bay Area-based publisher, author, and book developer (aka "Writing Midwife"). She works with a wide variety of writing clients to get them past the initial challenges of making blank pages come alive. She also nurtures new authors through their first manuscripts via formal counseling sessions. The goal that Naomi has in mind for her clients is to discover that, despite what books on technique and critics may say, the author already has everything she or he needs within in order to be creative and to touch the minds and hearts of others with their creativity and authentic voice.
Now, she reveals the same healing approach that she uses in her counseling sessions in her new book, Starting Your Book: A Guide to Navigating the Blank Page by Attending to What's Inside You.
Naomi Rose understands that many new writers are led to believe that they aren't intrinsically equipped to become published authors -- whether because they lack confidence in their ability to find their authentic writing voice, because they don't know how to articulate what's inside them in a manner worthy of being published, or because they simply don't experience themselves as creative and in touch with their inner life. The goal of Starting Your Book is to help aspiring writers listen to themselves, discover their innate internal wealth, and get past their negative beliefs and lack of confidence by paying attention to the creative and heart-based treasures within them, then writing from that awareness. .
Naomi Rose teaches aspiring book-writers that they are already equipped with all they need to write authentic, beautiful, transformative books that will have a profound and positive effect on their readers. Just as importantly, she shows them that they themselves have worth, and that their stories and messages are worthy of being heard.
She has a Master's Degree in English Literature, with graduate work in transpersonal psychology and healing modalities, and she approaches her work with writers from a place of mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. "It's important for writers to be nurtured," she says. "That's how they get to listen to, and nurture, themselves as they proceed. Writing a book is a courageous and often challenging process, and inner attentiveness goes a long way to allow out the beauty waiting within, and to unblock the fears and obstacles standing in the way of writing and completing the book -- and even enjoying the process." Receiving nurturing and encouragement not only supports the expression of the writer's truth, but it also makes it more possible to listen to that "still small voice" within and give it expression on the page.
Many of the book's readers have claimed that it has transformed not only their writing but also their personal lives, giving them a way to hear, value, and express what is in their hearts. Readers have also stated that the tone of the book feels very soothing, gentle, and safe.
For those who wish a gentler and deeper encouragement than is usually the case with books on writing, as well as illumination on their journey to becoming a confident book-writer, this is a very inviting read.
