SELLING FROM THE DEEPER SELF HOW YOU CAN PROFIT FROM THESE BOOKS (in Money as Well as Spirit) When a reader loves a particular book, she or he will naturally tell friends, colleagues, family, and affiliate groups. It's the “word-of-mouth” promotion, said to be the best kind. You might be that kind of reader. If you would naturally tell people about Rose Press books anyway, why not get paid to get the books to those people? I know there's value in these books ~ real value. And since many of them are about bringing people closer to each other through money, why not play this out in real life? Everyone wins. It's what I call “Harmonious Prosperity.” Traditionally, a publisher will discount a book from its retail price by a certain percentage in order for someone else (a book distributor ~ a bookstore ~ an institution, etc.) to get the book into readers' hands. For this service, that someone else gets that percentage of profit off the retail price when the book is sold.
So if I as publisher were to engage a distributor to get my book known by bookstores and individual readers, I would give them 20% of the retail price. Let's say the book is MotherWealth , for example, which retails for $14.95. The distributor would get 20%, or $2.99. That may not seem like much: but if they can sell 50 copies, they get $149.50. If they can sell 300 copies, they get $897.00! This is where you come in! What if you read (and loved) a Rose Press book, and ~ in the normal course of events ~ began telling people about it? Ordinarily, you might say, “Go to your local bookstore and buy it,” or “Get it on Amazon,” or “Buy it from the Rose Press website.” You're publicizing the book in the act of doing a favor for a friend.
But say you tell 5 friends about the book, and they all want it. If you choose to act as a “word-of-mouth representative” for the book, you can make $2.99 x 5, or $14.95, yourself, just by collecting the payment from them and ordering the books directly from the website. (You don't have to deliver the books, only order and pay for them. You'll then get a check for your 20 %.)
True, $14.95 isn't that much money in itself. But think of this:
You would have told them to buy the book, anyway. And,
You may belong to, or have access to, an organization, group, institution, reading club, online store, university class, and so on where one conversation can result in a bulk sale of hundreds of copies. What if half an hour of your conversational time resulted in the sale of 400 copies? Your percentage as a Rose Press “word-of-mouth representative” would give you a profit of $1,196!
